‘3%’ on Netflix: Your 5 Biggest Questions About Season 2 Answered (62)

3% (Brazil)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 83%
In the Brazilian Netflix Original, the world has been divided into two sides, one of progress and one of destruction. Only 3% of people are able to make it over to the "better" side of things, and over the course of the show's two seasons, the young protagonists do everything they can to make it into that small population of success stories. 3% is a thrilling tale of survival, loyalty, and heartache, and it's a welcome addition to the dystopian drama genre.

If you love dystopian sci-fi and angsty teens, boy does Netflix have a show for you. The streaming service recently released Season 2 of its Brazilian drama, 3%, a show that takes the concept of the haves and the have-nots and pushes it to the extremes. If you’re as obsessed with this sci-fi series as we are, you probably already binged Season 2, and you likely have some questions. That’s where we come in.Spoilers ahead.

Below are the breakdowns for some of this season’s biggest twists. Can the opulent Offshore continue to exist as the impoverished Inland gets angrier? What’s in store for this show’s rebellion, the Cause? And why in god’s name did Michele mess everything up this time? Here’s what we know and what we think could happen if there is a Season 3.

1

Is Ezekiel really dead?

‘3%’ on Netflix: Your 5 Biggest Questions About Season 2 Answered (65)

This season contained one of the most shocking twists of the series. Halfway through Season 2 Ezekiel (João Miguel), the head of the Process who has been playing both sides for as long as we’ve known him, was murdered. There have always been hints that Ezekiel wasn’t long for this world. Not only did the Cause and his forced allies hate him, but his “friends” on the Offshore were distrustful of him. So is Ezekiel really dead, and is Marcela (Laila Garin) officially our new head of the Process?

At the moment it seems like the answer to both of those questions is yes. But there’s always the possibility that Ezekiel could come back. After all, Marco (Rafael Lozano) did it, despite the fact he was ripped in two.

2

Who all knows about the Founding Trio?

‘3%’ on Netflix: Your 5 Biggest Questions About Season 2 Answered (66)

The entire system of the Inland and the Offshore is predicated on the story the Founding Couple, two highly intelligent people who lived about 100 years ago and made a test to determine who deserved to enjoy the Offshore’s limited resources. But as Season 2 reveals, the Founding Couple was actually the Founding Trio. Samira (Maria Flor), the third founder, wanted to expand the Offshore’s resources to the Inland, but she was murdered by her co-founders for that idea.

Samira’s controversial existence is a huge deal in the world of 3%. Just learning about her was enough to prompt Michele’s brother Andre (Bruno Fagundes) to murder another man. At the moment, only a handful of people know about Samira including Marcela, Michele (Bianca Comparato), and now Fernando (Michel Gomes). How this secret will continue to destroy this civilization remains to be seen.

3

What was Michele's plan?

‘3%’ on Netflix: Your 5 Biggest Questions About Season 2 Answered (67)

At the beginning of Season 2, Joanna (Vaneza Oliveira) learns that the Cause wants to plant a bomb during the Process to send the privileged people of the Offshore a message. Joanna becomes obsessed with trying to end the Process without killing anyone and recruits the help of Fernando and Rafael (Rodolfo Valente) to help her change the Cause’s plan. They’re almost successful too. With his friends’ help, Fernando finds the aquarium that contains all of the information for the Process and manages to contaminate it. Everyone is happy and proud. And then Michele reappears.

Our frustrating protagonist goes behind everyone’s back and offers the heads of the Offshore a backup of all the data they’ve lost. But there’s a catch. Michele’s new code also sends vital supplies to the Inland.

On one hand, Michele messed up Fernando, Joanna, and Rafael’s hard work yet again and ensured the Process would continue. On the other hand, her plan likely saved several Inland kids from being murdered. In Season 2’s final episode, it’s clear that Marcela is more than prepared to kill the rioting candidates. The season ends on Michele asking Fernando to be her partner as she designs a third place between the Inland and Offshore. Only time will tell if this is a solution that has any chance of working.

4

What's the future of the Cause?

‘3%’ on Netflix: Your 5 Biggest Questions About Season 2 Answered (68)

At the moment that’s unclear. Thanks to Joanna, the Cause certainly ends of a less murderous note than it began. However, the Cause has ultimately failed to accomplish its one goal— stopping the Process.

Here’s where our four leads’ alliances are at the end of Season 2:

  • Joanna is the celebrated leader of the Cause, but she has a shaky relationship with Rafael and hates Michele.
  • Rafael is working for the Offshore’s militaristic division, though he’s secretly with the Cause. He ends the season vowing to never take orders from Joanna and trying to make amends with his girlfriend.
  • Fernando is a reluctant addition to the Cause, though he’s not officially a member. He’s also distrustful of Michele.
  • Michele continues to play both sides and tries to recruit Fernando into her plan for a new society.

Here’s hoping that if the series continues we’ll get to see our protagonists directly facing off against each other instead of fighting a war that isn’t theirs.

5

So is the Process still happening?

‘3%’ on Netflix: Your 5 Biggest Questions About Season 2 Answered (69)

It sure seems like it. After a bomb threat, contaminating the mainframe, lots of hacking, a mini uprising, and one stressful week, Marcela opens up the doors to Process 105. However, as Fernando’s childhood friend finally enters the test she’s sacrificed so much to take, Gloria (Cynthia Senek) hesitates. If Season 3 continues exploring the uprising against the Process, you can bet that Gloria will be part of it. You can also bet that the Process will likely be less organized than before thanks to Michele’s meddling.

Something big is in store for the future of this dystopian society. We just can’t see what it is yet.
