The Fall Guy 2 has received a major update from Ryan Gosling. Gosling plays hapless stuntman Colt Seavers in The Fall Guy, which is based on the 1980s television show of the same name. Although at first Colt's primary concern with being part of the movie Metalstorm is the fact that it is being directed by his ex, Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt), he becomes drawn into an action-packed mystery thriller over the course of the movie when attempting to solve the disappearance of the star he's doubling, Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), who is mixed up in the criminal underworld.
During a recently published interview with Fast Company conducted shortly after the Academy Awards ceremony in March, Gosling spoke candidly and optimistically about the Fall Guy release and the possibility of a sequel. Indeed, he said that a script for the sequel has already been written because he and Blunt wanted to know what happens next, "just for ourselves." However, he warned that the movie won't be made unless the original performs well, saying that "hopefully the audience wants to know, too." Read his full quote below:

The sequel sort of wrote itself. We already know [the story] intimately. We’re just hoping that people like this movie enough that we get to keep telling the story of these characters. We love them so much, and we love this world, and I feel confident that we can do it... Oh yeah, [we've already got a script.] We already—I mean, we love these characters so much that we wanted to know, just for ourselves, what happens to Colt and [Emily Blunt’s character] Jody after the movie ends? What’s the next phase for them? And we know exactly what it is. So hopefully the audience wants to know, too.

Could The Fall Guy 2 Actually Happen?
The Ryan Gosling Sequel Must Overcome Certain Hurdles
It is possible that Gosling's quote may have been misconstrued and that he is actually referring to a story treatment or outline that has been completed rather than a full script for a sequel. However, in addition to being the co-lead of the Fall Guy cast, he is a producer on the movie, so he would likely have more insight into how far the creative team has gone in terms of developing a sequel. If it is really the case that a script has been completed, it seems highly probable that a sequel will be greenlit if the original performs well.
Ryan Gosling has only produced two previous movies in which he has starred, namely 2010's Blue Valentine and 2013's Only God Forgives.

The movie has already proven to be a critical success thanks to a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 83% aggregated from 243 different critics' reviews. So far, its audience score of 86% seems to show that viewers are engaging with it just as positively, though the score could fluctuate as the movie's theatrical release continues. However, there are still some major hurdles for the movie to overcome, as the Fall Guy box office will need to make up for its large budget, which is estimated between $130 and $150 million.

Generally, a movie needs to make at least twice its production budget in order to earn a profit, which would likely place the movie's break-even point above $260 million. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the domestic opening weekend for The Fall Guy is shaping up to turn out a lower-than-expected $28 million. While it could be bolstered by its international release, so far the movie does not seem to be on a strong footing to make a large profit worldwide, which could quickly scupper any plans for The Fall Guy 2.
